Bio

Hailed as “powerful” and “ready for primetime,” Black American soprano Nina Evelyn’s mission is to diversify the classical music canon by promoting and performing the works of Black composers. In May, she will be joining the Heritage Chorale as Soprano Soloist in a concert featuring music of Florence Price and Margaret Bonds. This summer, she will be covering Gretel in Hansel und Gretel with Aspen Opera Theater. In 2022, Nina triumphed in her mainstage debut with Boston Conservatory at Berklee as the title role in Floyd’s Susannah, a production that was named a “standout performance of 2022 in Boston” by WBUR radio. Previous engagements include performances as Monisha in Joplin’s Treemonisha with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Micaela in Carmen with Opera North.

GRAMMY-nominated soprano Maggie Finnegan has been hailed by Opera News for her ‘clear, poised and defiant soprano.’ This season: VALIS with MIT Media Lab, Eurydice with Boston Lyric Opera, The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe with Odyssey Opera, A Messiah for our Time with New England Philharmonic and Haydn’s Creation with the Vancouver Symphony. Career highlights: L’Enfant et les Sortilèges with the Belgian National Orchestra, Louis Andriessien’s Odysseus’ Women/Anais Nin at the Muziekgebouw, the award-winning film of Ana Sokolovic’s opera Svadba with Boston Lyric Opera & Opera Philadelphia, Lembit Beecher’s Sophia’s Forest with Opera Parallele, Experiments in Opera’s world premiere film Everything for Dawn, The Queen of the Night in Mass Opera’s The Magic Flute, and a duo recital with Mezzo-Soprano Stephanie Blythe. maggiefinnegansoprano.com

Bio

Lovely Hoffman is an Award-Winning singer, songwriter, and theatre artist. In 2015, Lovely received an IRNE Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Celie in the New England premiere of the “The Color Purple” at Speakeasy Stage Company. In 2017, she released her single, “My Black Is Beautiful,” a song about self-love, which went viral and reached #45 on the Adult Contemporary radio charts. Lovely has been featured on CNN and BET, and in Teen Vogue and Essence magazines. Theatre credits include Boston Lyric Opera, Reagle Music Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, Lyric Stage Company, Greater Boston Stage Company, Moonbox Productions, and The Umbrella Theatre. Wen Gu

Bio

Wen Gu, a Shanghai-born lyric soprano now based in Massachusetts, holds an MM in Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College. Her notable recent performances include portraying Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at La Voce Totale, soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C, and presenting her solo recital ‘All the souls I shared’. In 2021, Wen covered Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at Chicago Summer Opera. She also showcases versatility with roles like Lucio Cinna in Lucio Sulla and others. Wen’s accolades include second prize for Best Debussy Performance in 2019 and third prize for Best Mozart Performance in 2020 at the Great Composer Competitions. Additionally, she served as a young artist at Cremona International Music Festival in Italy in 2019. 
Emily Michiko Jensen (she/her)

Bio

Japanese-American soprano Emily Michiko Jensen has been praised for her “theatrical instincts and intriguingly versatile instrument.” In the summer of 2023 Ms. Jensen performed in a gala for the Goldovsky & Orfeo Societies through the Boston Lyric Opera, and returned to BLO at the start of the 2023-2024 season to cover Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly. This spring, Ms. Jensen makes her debuts as Mimì (La bohème) with Hawaii Opera Theatre and Musetta (La bohème) with the Borderland Arts Foundation. Ms. Jensen is a recent career grant recipient of the Olga Forrai Foundation. Previous engagements include, Tosca (cover) and Angel More & Susan B. Jaime Korkos (she/her)

Bio

Acclaimed for her “winning and beautifully balanced voice” (San Francisco Classical Voice), and her “depth and sensitivity” (Opera Wire), San Francisco native mezzo-soprano Jaime Korkos is equally at home in classic and contemporary repertoire. With a background in theatre, Ms. Korkos is a versatile performer with leading and supporting roles spanning the operatic canon, having performed the title roles in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Offenbach’s La Périchole, Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Dvorak’s Rusalka, as well as other principal roles such as Anežka in Smetana’s The Two Widows, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Orestes in La belle Hélène. A resident of the Boston area, Jaime frequently appears with the Boston Lyric Opera, and is a regular cantor at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Bio

Brittany is a full time Provincetown based performer. They have year round performance residences at The Gifford House and The Crown and Anchor. Upcoming shows include REEFER MADNESS at Wellfleet Harbor Actors’ Theatre, THE GREEN FAIRY, which Brittany co-wrote, directed, and produced, and BROADWAY ON THE BEACH, which Brittany produces and hosts at The Crown and Anchor. Brittany would like to express gratitude to the Mass Opera folks for including her in this.

Bio

 Kayla Shimizu is thrilled to performing with MassOpera. She was last seen as Vivienne in Legally Blonde (Moonbox Productions), Ensemble in Assassins (Lyric Stage), Ariel in Little Mermaid and Laurie in Oklahoma (Reagle Music Theatre), Natalya in Preludes (Lyric Stage), Catherine in Pippin (RMT) and Natasha in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 (The Wilbury Theatre Group). Among other credits, she has also appeared in The Old Man and The Old Moon (The Umbrella Stage; Rogers Center of the Arts), and Avenue Q (The Umbrella Stage). Kayla is a graduate from Emerson College in Boston.
