MASSOPERA COMMUNITY AND YOUTH ENSEMBLE (CYE) AUDITIONS—FOR OUR 2025 PRODUCTION OF ALCINA—WILL BE HELD IN PERSON ON SATURDAY JANUARY 25TH, WITH AN OPTION FOR AUDITIONING VIA VIDEO SUBMISSION. PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW AND FILL OUT THE APPLICATION TO SECURE YOUR SPOT!
The MassOpera Community & Youth Ensemble has been formed with the goal of incorporating the wider Massachusetts community into our mainstage productions. We aim to create a space to share in our mutual love of opera and provide opportunities for students and classical singer hobbyists/enthusiasts to gain professional stage experience.
To sign up to audition, please fill out the audition application form. Prospective auditionees will not be considered unless they have completed the form. The application form is embedded below.

WHEN & WHERE
Auditions for MassOpera’s Community & Youth Ensemble’s inaugural season will take place in-person on Saturday, January 25th, from 2 PM to 8 PM at Old West Church (131 Cambridge Street in Boston).
If you are unable to make the in-person date, or would prefer to submit a video recording, you may do so through our interest form (embedded below), or by emailing your clip to Akela Franklin. If submitting via video recording, please refer to the video recording style guide for best practices.
WHO
Auditions are open to all high school age students as well as amateur/hobbyist adult singers. Participants must be 14 years of age by the time rehearsals begin on April 14, 2025.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
For your audition, please prepare one of the following options to present to the panel:
- An Italian aria or art song of your choice (please keep under 4 mins or be prepared for us to cut you off if it goes longer).
- A chorus selection from Alcina, “Sin per le vie del sole” in your desired voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). We are providing Individual Part Guides (slightly under tempo for note learning purposes). You can use the following to prepare:

AUDITON FEE
There is no fee to audition. If accepted into the Community and Youth Ensemble, singers will need to pay the $685 program fee to participate.
